The new Star Trek movie has turned my kids into serious Trek aficionados. Older son spent a week home sick with the not!flu and watched episode after episode of the original series. I thought he'd be bored out of his mind, but he loves it. Daughter sat in on a few eps and asked if we could check out some ST:TNG as well. Now she's hooked and wants to watch it every chance she gets. She says, "I can't believe I'm such a geek!" But she comes from a long line of Star Trek fans. She could hardly have escaped. It's in her blood.

All righty, then. What's on the agenda for today? Errands, laundry, exercise, fic rec, write. Same old, same old. One day blurs into the next when you're having fun.

Ennui's et my brains!

Ooh, I know how to break up the monotony: Dance!

To the vid: Fun! But-

AUGH! BAD FAKE BRASS PLAYING! I love the fact they're holding a flugel without one even being played either.

Today's the first time I saw the video. I've had that song rumba-ing its way through my head for DAYS, so I thought I'd try and put it in yours. I like to share. :D

Nice, very nice, but it takes a great deal more than that to get a non-dancer like me to shake my booty. S'all about the rhythm, baby, and I need something like this to get my toes a-tappin'.

One of my all time *favorite* Paul Simon songs! Wheeeee! :D

As for shaking your ass... :) This would be one of my preferred beats...

(That's one of my favorites from that album -- which is an awesome album all around. I rock out in the kitchen to this one pretty often.)

I'm also really down with anyone who wants to throw on some Mariachi. Los Lonely Boys are great, and Los Lobos is a constant favorite. Or Glenn Miller -- he usually makes house cleaning go quicker!

I never heard that song before. Cool! Man, I haven't listened to Glen Miller in forever. My dad used to make me dance with him at every wedding whenever the bands played In the Mood. Only he could really dance and I could only fumble along.

I'm dying for my kids to take latin dance classes. When I first suggested the idea, they protested, but I think I may have convinced them to give it a try. I tell them I'm giving them a gift for their future, so they won't up feeling all spastic on the dance floor like me.

Some day, I'm gonna take private lessons, privately. Did I mention they'd have to be private? Husband and I took ballroom dancing when we were first married. I won't bore you with the details of that little fiasco, but it didn't end well.

I love swing, and I love ballet, but Latin dance is where it's *at.* Seriously. I would also love to learn to belly dance. And maybe some flamenco. When I took ballroom in college, I had more fun with salsa and tango and mambo and all that than anything else. Then, of course, my instructor found out I'd taken ballet for years and I became demo-girl, which made for some very very uncomfortable times. :) But hey, I can do this thing called the 'death drop' that's pretty cool! :D

I grew up listening to everything from Mozart to John Denver to Glen Miller to Paul Simon and everything in between, so my music collection looks pretty schizo. If you like swing, check out LaVay Smith -- she's absolutely incredible.

I love swing! I've got eclectic tastes in music as well. Husband brought most of the classic rock into our relationship, but I brought the classical, new wave, rap, folk, swing, etc, etc. For years, we just listened to kid music, and it's been really sweet to rediscover our own preferences again.
